Molina de Aragón-Alto Tajo District

Located in the northwest of the province of Guadalajara, this region offers a great diversity of habitats.

  • Among them is the Alto-Tajo Natural Park. The protection of this territory recognizes the exceptional importance of the most extensive system of river gorges in the Region and one of the most important in Spain. This protected natural area is in an excellent state of conservation and is one of the summits of biodiversity in Castilla-La Mancha. The Natural Park is adhered to theEuropean Charter for Sustainable Tourism . (CETS). It has four interpretation centers, a wide network of viewpoints and trails. Multitude of landscapes where you can enjoy its facilities, practice ecotourism, active tourism, hiking and environmental education activities.The whole territory is part of the Molina de Aragón-High Tagus Geopark.We will be able to visit the Geosites, make geotourism routes, and enjoy the activities of the Geopark.
  • We will contemplate such impressive and diverse landscapes as those of the Mesa Valleythe Sierra de Caldereroswith its unique rocky silhouettes, the Parameras of Maranchón, and Aragoncillo or Sierra Molina perfect for contemplating the vast horizon; imposing cannons and sickles like those of the Tajo and the Gallo; gaps such as Honda, Salobreja or Taravilla; waterfalls such as the Escaleruela, or the Poveda waterfall; enchanted rock cities such as those of Chequilla, Hoya del espino or Peñalén; imposing folds such as those of Cuevas labradas or those that can be seen from the castle of Alpetea and the viewpoint of the gorge; rivers of stone; deep chasms such as Villanueva de Alcorón and countless others. cavesThe Tornero or the Casares, in Riba de Saelices, where the Upper Paleolithic men left their engravings.
  • We will experience different ecosystems where we highlight the juniper, pine, oak, oak and holly groves, species such as the creeping juniper, the cambronales, rupicolous plants, thyme and orchids. As for the fauna, there is a good representation of carnivorous mammals (badger, wild cat and marten), ungulates (roe deer and deer) and birds; griffon vulture, Egyptian vulture, peregrine falcon and eagle owl. Approximately 70% of the territory is included within a Protected Natural Area, 47.06% of the territory is a ZEC, and 52.94% of the region is a ZEPA. The Alto Tajo Natural Park and six areas included in the Natura 2000 Network stand out.
